What is Surrogacy?
Surrogacy is very rarely the first decision on someone’s journey of building a family. People often come to surrogacy after trying to conceive naturally for many years, and after exhausting other options such as intrauterine insemination (IUI), and in vitro fertilization (IVF), sometimes with egg or semen donation.
Surrogacy sometimes becomes the only way to have a child for women who have had surgery on their uterus and/or other reproductive organs, such as a hysterectomy performed because of myoma or uterine bleeding during previous childbirths.
While this may be the last attempt for many couples to start their families, it can be a rewarding, joyous and fruitful experience for all parties involved. Some couples choose to maintain a relationship with their surrogate after the birth, while others close off all contact. You can choose to maintain the style of relationship that suits youWhere surrogacy is legal?r situation best.
Where surrogacy is legal?
The legality of surrogacy varies from country to country, with dramatically differing laws and rules around the world. Some countries prohibit all forms of surrogacy, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Bulgaria.
In other countries, surrogacy is allowed in cases that the surrogate mother is not paid an unreasonable fee (paying her a reasonable fee to cover her expenses is allowed). Ireland, Denmark, the UK and Belgium do not allow commercial surrogacy (that is, paying a woman a fee above her reasonable expenses).
Some US states allow commercial surrogacy, as do certain countries including Russia, India and Ukraine. As a result, many people who have the desire to be a parent choose to go to these countries in order to find a surrogate.
Ukraine is many people’s top choice for surrogacy, as it represents a balance of value for money and quality. It is one of the most popular surrogacy destinations in the world, as the legal protection of parental rights (for the intended parents) is high, and prices paid are fair by local standards, but low by international standards.
Ukraine’s central location (attractively placed between Asia and Europe) make it the perfect location for any intended parents who want to start growing their family. ARKCryo is proud to collaborate with the Intersono IVF clinic, located in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. Intersono uses state of the art technology to perform surrogacy cycles, and they can provide thorough legislation services and a ‘go home’ package to help you return to your domicile with your new bundle of joy.
That said, even in the Ukraine, the laws around surrogacy can still vary, and you need to do research to ensure that you do not fall afoul of the law. For example, if you are from certain Australian states, you can be charged simply for going to another country for commercial surrogacy, but other Australian states forbid it. Check with your local laws before embarking on this process.
Costs for Surrogacy in Ukraine
When compared with the prices for surrogacy in Canada, the United States, and Australia, the prices of egg donation, IVF and all surrogacy services in Ukraine are substantially lower. In fact, the rates can be as low as 50% - 70% less than the costs in other countries, and the quality is growing every year.
When compared to other international destinations often associated with surrogacy (such as Mexico and India), Ukraine is a comparably priced (and often a lot more affordable) than other options, even when you factor in all travel and lodging expenses.
The rules of transportation for surrogacy - Paper work for surrogacy transportations
Before you prepare to transport frozen eggs (as well as embryos) for any surrogacy cycles you need to prepare the required list of all documents that are required for international border crossings. In order to avoid unnecessary delays, you must ensure that all of the following documents are completed correctly in order to release and/or receive biomaterial:
- A fully completed application, including the patients’ official request to release their biological material and then transport it to the next clinic.
- A signed confirmation from the next clinic that states that they are ready to receive the shipment.
- A detailed letter from the patients that expresses their trust in the courier, and that grants full permission for said courier to transport the biological material.
- All biological material must be transported with the required critical analysis paperwork: HIV 1, 2 & 0, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Syphilis.
In the event that clients need any additional assistance to prepare these documents, ARKCryo is here to provide all help needed. We do everything in our power to ensure that you comply with all necessary norms and standards, and we make sure that you have the correct documents for customs clearance.
